physicians are the only licensed healthcare providers fully trained in the use of botanical medicine.
Homeopathy A system of medicine based on the “law of similars”
using dilute substances to stimulate the body’s own healing process. Physical Medicine Manipulation of the bones, joints,
muscles and soft tissue for pain relief, increased mobility, and improved function. Ordering Products and Supplements: Licensed NDs have a comprehensive
understanding of pharmaceutical grade products and supplements that are third party tested for quality, potency, and purity.
These are not available over the counter at pharmacies or even at your local health food or vitamin shop; your Licensed ND
generally has exclusive access to these products and supplements. If supplements are part of your care plan, they can be purchased through
Dr. Perchemlides' practice at a discounted rate to help assure each patient's access to the highest quality products in the
most convenient manner. Scope of Practice: Naturopathic therapies are generally
safer, less toxic, and have fewer side effects than conventional therapies. Licensed Naturopathic Doctors are qualified to
administer these therapies because they have a comprehensive understanding of physiology, pharmacology, botanical medicine, nutritional
biochemistry, and interactions between natural and drug therapies. Without training from an accredited naturopathic
medical college, one cannot safely make recommendations about Natural Medicine. All therapeutic recommendations that
a Licensed ND makes are evidence-based: thorough clinical research has been utilized to evaluate their safety and efficacy.
In the State of Oklahoma, a Licensed Naturopathic Doctor serves as a consultant and does not take the place of other medical
providers. Patients should continue to work with their primary care provider and any other medical specialists with whom they
have consulted. As a Licensed ND, I can collaborate with these other providers to integrate and individualize patient care.
While in consultation with me, patients should not stop taking any medications prescribed by their MDs. While, I can offer my professional opinion about the efficacy
and use of prescribed pharmaceuticals, the prescribing doctor must make any final recommendations about these medications.
Many patients seek Naturopathic Medicine because they are concerned about the health risks and financial
consequences of pharmaceuticals. Licensed Naturopathic Doctors can often help to decrease the need for prescription
medications or make informed recommendations about replacing them with natural alternatives. Additionally, Licensed NDs can
help to mitigate the unwanted side effects of prescription medication. “First, do no harm” is the foremost of
our guiding principles; therefore, our first priority is to help you achieve your health goals safely. The best way to do
so is to collaborate with a patient’s other physicians before implementing any changes in a prescription medication
regimen. An integrative and collaborative approach to healthcare is the best way to help a patient achieve his or her healthcare
goals.
